As a professional association of aftermarket repairers, VASA members
are expected to follow OEM specifications and guidelines when
advising customers on the most appropriate consumables for their
vehicle.
Refrigerants used in vehicle air conditioning systems are clearly
defined by world best practice. Only one refrigerant R134a is
approved by every car maker in the world.
Some repairers may try to charge a vehicle air conditioning system
with a flammable hydrocarbon refrigerant, but consumers should make
themselves aware of the potential dangers of this practice. No
vehicle system in the world is designed to carry hydrocarbon
refrigerant in its air conditioning system, and no manufacturer is
considering such a move for reasons of safety.
