Euro EV thermal management sector grows

Thermal management manufacturer Modine is expanding its European production footprint to meet the needs of electric vehicle manufacturers.

A surge in the adoption of commercial EVs across Europe makes Modine’s expansion a timely move. By expanding local manufacturing capabilities, Modine aims to enhance supply chain efficiency on the continent, reduce lead times, and overcome trade barriers while complying with regional regulations and standards.
From this year, Modine’s new facility in Pontevico, Italy, will serve as the primary manufacturing hub for battery thermal management and electronics cooling systems for heavy-duty, commercial, and specialty vehicle manufacturers across Europe.

Modine VP and GM of Advanced Thermal Systems Gina Maria Bonini said the company’s new factory in Europe would help it “more directly serve European manufacturers with thermal management solutions that address the challenges faced by EV platform developers everywhere”.
Modine’s modular EVantage system can be customised to meet the requirements of different electric vehicle platforms. It includes a battery thermal management system and electronics cooling package that incorporate proprietary heat exchanger technology and programmable smart controllers, which are designed to help maintain optimal temperature ranges for EV batteries, traction motors, and power electronics with minimal power draw.

Ms Bonini said her Modine colleagues “worked tirelessly to ensure our European customers have access to our high-quality systems and the in-depth engineering support for which Modine is known”.
“We are thrilled to play a growing role in the electrification of commercial vehicles in the European market.”

This strategic move places Modine – established in 1916 as a manufacturer of tractor radiators in the United States – in prime position as European commercial EV adoption rapidly accelerates and requirements evolve.
