R744 Audis not coming to Australia

AUDI has finally shed light on the R744 situation for Australia, confirming it will not bring its A8 flagship limousine Down Under fitted with air-conditioning systems using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant.

The company’s spokesman for government affairs and emissions Bernd Bante told SightGlass eNews in a statement that for the Australian market “there are no definite plans for the introduction of Audi models equipped with R744 air-conditioning systems”.

“At the moment we are installing this type of MAC exclusively in certain A8 models for the EU-market,” he added.

“Use in other markets and models depends on various parameters outside of our influence, e.g. the further development of necessary infrastructure as well as its market acceptance. Therefore we are currently observing all other markets.”
