EV batteries go camping

Nissan has collaborated with British camper trailer manufacturer Opus to create a “smart camping concept” that uses second-life batteries from Nissan’s first-generation Leaf electric car to power “off-grid adventures”.
The concept integrates a portable, self-contained and weatherproof ‘Roam’ powerpack produced by Nissan Energy that can power 230v and 12v appliances.

Nissan Energy claims the Roam’s 700Wh storage capacity and 1kW power output are sufficient for around seven days of off-grid camping when assisted by a solar panel (it’s also quieter and less polluting than a Honda generator).
The Opus concept camper includes a special housing for the Roam, a microwave oven, two-burner gas stove, fridge, 230v and USB power sockets, LED lighting, WiFi hotspot and a digital movie projector with pull-up screen.
An on-board compressor inflates the canopy’s support structure in around 90 seconds.
