Autodata adds colour wiring diagrams, jacking mode module

RECENT improvements to Autodata’s online system include individual wire colouring on the interactive wiring diagrams and a module providing instructions for safely raising vehicles fitted with variable-height suspension systems.

Existing Autodata customers and VASA members who have used our member-exclusive SightGlass Tech bulletins will know of the lettered colour-coding system that has been used for years, but now coloured wires on the Autodata system’s interactive diagrams directly represent the colour of wires found on the vehicle.

Autodata Australia managing director Brett Engeman said the upgrade to coloured wiring diagrams “is another big step forward that will continue to save our customers time and improve the user experience.”

“Modern electrical systems and wiring harnesses are becoming increasingly complex and even the most experienced technicians can find repairs daunting without assistance.”

Meanwhile the jacking mode module is designed to help workshops avoid causing expensive damage while raising or lowering certain vehicles fitted with height-adjustable suspension, with particular focus on those most susceptible to damage when jacking mode is not properly engaged.

Initially covering 34 models including 4WD and light commercial vehicles, the new module includes step-by-step procedures that must be performed before they are raised and lowered, plus diagrams and illustrations aimed at improving efficiency and avoiding suspension component damage.

Mr Engeman said Autodata had been “made aware of instances where failure to have this information has resulted in costs amounting to thousands of dollars.”

“The procedures are not always massively complicated, however do vary quite significantly across models. This latest feature will provide clear and accurate guidance to minimise the chance of mistakes occurring.”

Autodata is promising further updates in coming months, which unlike the CDs of old, are automatically added to the online system that was launched earlier this year as soon at they are available .

“When designing our latest web application it was essential that a capability existed to make real-time updates for both our technical data and product features,” said Mr Engeman.

“This not only ensures Autodata subscribers always receive the most accurate and reliable information but also the very latest in product innovation, without having to wait for new editions.”
