Jaguar Land Rover to get virus-busting HVAC tech
- PostedPublished 29 March 2021
Jaguar Land Rover is planning to install Panasonic’s virus-busting ‘nanoe X’ air-purification technology on future models.
The nanoe X technology, already used in some Panasonic commercial air-conditioners, has been verified as an inhibitor of harmful bacteria and viruses (including COVID-19) by viral research specialists Texcell.
Jaguar Land Rover has also commissioned an independent assessment of nanoe X through microbiology and virology experts Perfectus Biomed, which found the system inhibited viruses and bacteria ;by up to 97 per cent in sealed-chamber simulation that mimics a vehicle ventilation system in recirculation mode over a 30-minute cycle. The all-electric Jaguar I-PACE performance SUV, Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover Evoque already come with Panasonic’s existing nanoe technology and PM2.5 filtration. The same technology is has also been used for some time by Toyota and its Lexus luxury division.
However, the more advanced nanoe X system is said to clean and deodorise the air by producing nano-sized hydroxyl radicals (also known as OH radicals) that inhibit the growth of certain allergens, bacteria, viruses, moulds, odours and other hazardous substances by breaking them down and reducing their potentially adverse effects.
