THIS image of an Australian-spec Toyota 70 Series LandCruiser converted to electric drive was published online by VASA member GB Auto and went on to be shared almost 900 times on Facebook with 1200 comments and nearly 800 reactions. After going viral, the electric ‘Cruiser ended up with national media coverage.
GB Auto is working with Dutch EV conversion specialists Tembo to convert Toyota LandCruiser and HiLux 4×4 vehicles for the Australian mining industry, helping improve air quality in underground work environments among several other benefits.
At the moment, vehicles are being converted in The Netherlands and GB Autos aims to begin building the vehicles locally at its workshop in Orange, New South Wales, later this year. One of the converted vehicles will soon begin a mine site trial.
GB Auto clearly has its finger on the pulse technologically, having recently run the first in a series of Bosch training days on Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Systems.
